party like it's christmas

I now have two twitter widgets in the side bar because the one that's actually from Twitter has got to be one of the nicest widgets around but it doesn't always work, so.... I'm testing. :)

Tomorrow's the last day of school! But I've been spending so much money, I had about $300 +++ just a week ago and now I'm down to 150 bucks or so. And I want to get nice Christmas presents for everyone. And buy things for myself. But I have no money.

School kind of..... Really sucks. As I predicted it would when I first started and assumed that I was having a blast. But what the heck, I'm just going to school tomorrow and jump around and take photos with everyone and try to have fun.

And. Did I mention. I only have one hour of school tomorrow!!

Since I did badly for my exams, I was wondering which subject to downgrade: math or literature. So I decided to get cleverbot's opinion...

(click to enlarge don't you know this by now!)

... Needless to say we are now bosom buddies even though it's now accusing me of being bald. And also a boy.

bloody monday and the quiz show 2

Got two DVDs today... Bloody Monday and The Quiz Show 2!

Happened to walk into a DVD shop and saw that they were having a sale. I saw some Japanese DVDs going for $6 and got really excited! But then I realised that those were only the specials and not the whole serial. But then I found the serials which cost $7.90 each and $12(US$ 9.70) for two! I was thinking of getting Koizora, but decided against it because I felt that it would be more value-for-money to get two drama serials. And I chose The Quiz Show 2 over Akai Ito because it has two good-looking guys (Sakurai Sho and Yokoyama Yu!) in it. I've never heard of it until today but it seems really interesting!

This is the first time that I've actually paid for anything J-pop related, unless you count magazines. But it seems that you get your money's worth indeed! Each DVD comes with a write-up of each character and a chart to show the relationships between the characters. BUT.... it's in Chinese. Shall post better pictures tomorrow!

I had my General Paper mid-year exam today, but it didn't really have any effect on me? I guess it's because there's no way I could have studied and the exam went quite smoothly. And the June holidays are here!

Okay, I'm going to bathe and then I'll watch start watching The Quiz Show 2 (it's sounds so interesting that I'm going to watch it before Bloody Monday!) on my "new" laptop. No, I still haven't switched over to the "new" one! And here's why.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Being a happy sociable teenager is taking it's toll on my wallet. In my days of being an anti-social kid during the holidays, I could hole myself up at home 5/7 days of the week-long holidays and splurge it all on the one or two days that I went out. It's only Wednesday and I've been doing something everyday.

Monday was my orientation group coming over to my house. There was really nothing to do so we ended up borrowing a mahjong set from the house at the corner. And I learnt how to play mahjong! And I actually like it very, very much. I love my orientation group for frightening me so much during my first few days in college. I was  alarmed at how quickly they managed to make my level of English deteriorate (and I just had to check how to spell that word) with their relentless mixing of Chinese, English and Hokkien (in order of frequency used). But I learnt that being cheena is fun too and anyway my class is a History class and therefore speaks better English.

Tuesday was meeting up with secondary school friends. I now use friends instead of the old "friends" because they are now, truly, my friends. I feel much more comfortable with them then I ever did in secondary school. Spent lots of dough on karaoke singing and fries. $4.20 for fries and cheese but it was so good!

I really do declare myself a star at saving money. I went to a thrift shop with the intention of buying new clothes/shoes/bags at dirt cheap prices, but ended up walking away with a ridiculously thick knit cardigan which I will probably not wear for the next ten months. Picture below:

It still has the price tag on it and the price tag says River Island UK size 14 UK£34.99 and I bought if for S$18 which makes me feel really smart and good at saving money. ^^ I actually intended to get clothes that I would actually wear, but I didn't have much time and most of the nice clothes were taken by two fashion designer-ish  dudes. It was quite obvious that they were getting the clothes for some sort of event because they had a trolley full of clothes from the thrift store. And also because they were two rather flamboyantly-dressed men in the ladies section. So there I was, grabbing onto my woolly cardigan thing lest they snatch it for me should I put it down for a second, looking around for anything else good when the lady at the counter started yelling, "Closing already, anyone who wants to buy anything, better hurry." Which is how I ended up with this woolly thing. I still haven't decided if I regret buying it yet. And all this happened today, which I'd intended as a hole-myself-up-at-home day.

Tomorrow, I have extra Chinese lesson, which I'm looking forward to. Chinese lesson is a big waste of my life and prevents me from going home three hours earlier on some days but I still love/hate it.

I agreed to go to a friend's party on Saturday, which means I should get her a present. I told her I wouldn't be getting her one, but I still feel kind of guilty. And I signed up for a CIP thing on Sunday which is at Marina Bay. That'd be great if not for the fact that I stay at Yio Chu Kang. When I mentioned in my 2011 resolutions that I'd be more sociable, I mentally told myself that I'd meet up with people even if they were meeting up at the other end of the train line. (though my post says the exact opposite) But Marina Barrage is still too... far. And what's worst is that I thought Marina Barrage wasn't that far when I signed up.

The earthquake/ tsunami/ nuclear disaster in Japan. I didn't really want to mention this becuase I think everyone's read/ seen/ heard more than enough about it. I know people are going to get angry over this but I don't really get why people are all about donating money to Japan. Japan's rich... I think (based on my rather shallow knowledge of current affairs) I just hope the authorities use the money (their own/ donations) properly. The nuclear radioactivity thing's the worst of all that's happened so far and it seems like most Japanese are trying to get away. Either far away or out of the country entirely. Some Tokyoites my parents know have already come to Singapore to get away from the radiation. And my mum is going all berserk about how we can't go to Japan for the next three years and wondering if she should buy iodine pills. Singapore will never be able to build a nuclear plant becuase we don't have a 30km radius to evacuate out of. If I were Malaysia I'd build a nuclear plant in JB.

Anyway, life goes on.

I just found out that Tokyograph's layout has changed. Anyway, some Johnny's Jr. guy that I've never heard of is getting married.

JC is intense. It's fun but that doesn't make it anywhere less tiring/stressful. I overslept by 97 minutes today and missed one tutorial but the teacher didn't notice. And I finally got the guts to ask the math tutor for a consultation session next week. You go girl.

Other than that I've been in a really lazy mood and all my lives are dead. Social, psychological, INTERNET, you name it. So I advise you to check my blog less often/ unfollow me because I won't be posting a lot of Jap entertainment stuff.

I don't understand how people can do everything I do and still have time for facebook.

being alone is underrated

Things I have learnt after one week in JC:

You can still feel sleepy if you sit right at the front during a lecture. Teachers still care if you sleep in class.

Everyone's frank about what they want to be, eg. student council, house exco, etc. I love it and now I'm really open about what I want.

It's possible to have an enjoyable PE lesson with 6 students. (I bet I'll get muscle ache tomorrow)

Some toilets have maps to help you if you get lost inside them.

The bookshop auntie's clock is obviously spoilt because no matter how many times in a day you ask her when the notes/book you want will be available, she'll tell you that it's coming in an hour.

Being in a co-ed school is kind of really annoying because you can't change anywhere you want. I feel so tempted to use the guys' toilet when there's no one inside and the girls' toilet is packed.

Lastly, it is possible to survive a one-and-a-half hour Chinese lesson!

I am probably enjoying life in JC because 4pm feels like noon. And this was after the 90 minute Chinese lesson as mentioned above.

I'll probably write an emo post months later about how I hate school and have no friends/ feel like a loser/ no one understands me/ all sorts of whiny stuff.

Also, I am going to be a more polite person and stop saying "wahlao".

Cape Town, South Africa.

And some animal butts

I have a lot more better animal butt photos, but they're on another camera... or got deleted. I haven't updated anything really Japanese gossip related in ages (okay maybe two weeks but it feels so long). Hmm.

Fujiki Naohito, some SMAP guy and Kuroki Meisa will be in a drama together! School's been great except for the studying/waking up early/other school-ish stuff. No, really, school's been fun. Though I've probably spent less than 5 hours in lectures this week (first week of school) and I already hate H2 Math. And everyone keeps on speaking to me in Chinese because it's a Chinese-ish school and I have a China face (not saying that it's bad or anything).

Me: "What are you eating?"
X: "不知道" (I don't know)
Me: "Why are you speaking in Chinese?!"
X: "为什么不可以?!" (Why can't I?!)

And when I decide to blend in and speak Chinese, they tell me I sound weird (I bet they're just biased though). I might not speak Chinese at home but I took Higher Chinese in secondary school. Yah I know I got a D7 but still!!! But other than the language issue (and the way the principal pronounces neighbours as "nay-balls"), it's quite a nice place. I think. I hope.

see you when I next give in to the lure of the laptop

Graduation last Saturday. I was correct when I said that everyone would change their minds at the last minute and start missing school. I'm always right about this sort of thing, but it doesn't stop me from feeling like a social misfit when what I predict happens.
I got a good for my conduct this semester. This is the first time I've gotten anything lower than a very good after 10 years of formal schooling the school just has to do this to me. Just because I only attended 11/20 schooldays in term 4 but hey at least I'm not one of those students that create trouble for my teachers. I'm going to get some shockingly good results for my Os and you'll be praising me when I come back to collect my results next year okay.

And my testemonial. I substituted my name with andwewonder but it looked too weird, hence the strikethrough.
Character: andwewonder is a calm and reassuring presence in class. (yeah I'm not even in class half the time) A polite and well-mannered pupil, she carries herself with remarkable poise and composure, displaying fortitude and commendable grace at times. andwewonder's patient and gentle disposition, as well as her sensitivity to the emotions of others, enables her to apply diplomacy and tact in resolving conflict between her peers, winning her many friends. (you mean I have no enemies, not that I have many friends)
Passion for Learning: andwewonder is a disciplined and conscientious learner, capable of intelligent and interesting responses. (wow I never knew I respond in class) An independent leader who takes the initiative to read widely outside the prescribed school curriculum, andwewonder is mature for her age and capable of analytical thought. In her quiet confident way, she displays strength and is capable of holding her own. A highly oranised and motivated individual, andwewonder is a very reliable team member. (wouldn't team leader have sounded better?)
Well, I guess it could have been worse. Four years of secondary school, gone. I am trying very hard to study now but I have like 8 subjects to study for in 13 days and is that even posible even if I were to type out what I have to study I wouldnt' have the time. Additional Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Lit are worrying me. For once I am glad that I do not have cable tv in my house and my brother's friends are coming tomorrow. I am now idly reading blogs of foreigners living in Japan.

My life is as non-existent as kittens on Mars.

hye there.. i've just read ur post of akanashi's withdrawal is caused by the irreparable rship with kamenashi..it's hard for me to believe it..but is there, by chance u got to know both of them in private (i mean do u know anything 'bout their lifestyle
Haha, I wish I knew them! No, I don't know them personally at all and anything I know about them comes from the Internet/magazines.

To the other sweetie that asked me another Formspring question, I'll reply to that another time! I'm just too tired to translate anything now... :( My exams are in 3 weeks or 24 days or some other really horrifying number and I've wasted the past 4 days just bumming around, not even doing anything productive.

Viva hardworking!

I've been obsessing about these three things lately:
1. Tiffany & Co.
2. Rilakkuma
3. Japanese magzine freebies!

There's still a week to go before the end of my preliminary exams. I can't wait till it's all over so that I can do all the things I want! I'm looking forward to checking out this shop at Plaza Singapura which apparently sells lots of Rilakkuma items. It's called "Sanrio Gift Gate", anyone heard of it?

I was forced to do detention yesterday because I've been late for school too many times now. Actually sometimes it's because I walk too slowly. I can walk much faster than that but I just really don't want to go to school. Anyway, my detention wasn't even bad or anything since the teacher just left me alone in the room. I even went out to buy food and stopped to chat with a classmate. It was even air-conditioned! But I wantmy shoes were wet from the rain in the morning so I didn't particularly enjoy that luxury.

I want to speak complain about my exams but I shan't because if I do I'll just continue ranting forever. :) It's about 90% confirmed that I am going to learn Japanese after my O levels! I recently approaced my dad (who has done his JLPT 4) on the topic so at least now I can learn it and actually get certified, rather than just learning by myself in secret.

Okay, I'm going off to study! >:/ I still have a shot at scoring well in two subjects and, erm, saving myself from a fail in Chemistry by doing well in the multiple choice section. PASS CHEMISTRY DAISAKUSEN, FIGHT-OH, OH!

I know my blog's been dead (boring)

Hi all, I really can't find anything news-worthy to post today. (>.<) My preliminary exams will be starting next week, so I might not update so often. I usually post news about the Japanese actors/singers I know, and I won't post every single article of news on them, so the numbers of posts will decrease if I can't find anything interesting on them, hope you understand!

I've added a countdown timer at the sidebar to motivate myself to stop surfing the internet and study more, please bear with it! This blog will most probably be not as updated until after my state exams which are from 25th October to 15th November. But after my exams, I want to learn Japanese and then I can translate and write better articles, plus read all those fan magazines! :DD And I can watch Japanese dramas without relying so much on the subs. Teehee.

Maybe I sound like I'm crazy over my grades and my life is centered on getting straight As, but I'm quite sure that's how it works here.

From the ongoing poll, I can see that there are some who dislike my personal posts. Stick with it for a while! I just need somewhere for me to rant, and you can always skip them. As usual, emails and comments are welcome. Recently, I've been getting a lot of "advertisments" on my tagboard. Please refrain from doing so, especially when what you're advertising has nothing to do with Japanese entertainment/ anything in my blog! Oh, please ask me questions through Formspring~ My formspring account has been so dead...

Tanaka Koki of KAT-TUN used to be bullied in school

KAT-TUN member, Tanaka Koki confessed that he used to be bullied by classmates on their radio program “KAT-TUN style.” The two personalities from KAT-TUN on this day were Tanaka Koki and Taguchi Junnosuke.
On one of the corners of the radio show, "Majime ni Hanashima special" (Let’s have a serious conversation), KAT-TUN members provide advice to listeners. On this specific episode, an 8th grade girl wrote in asking them for advice.
She wrote, “I have been bullied at school since I was in 6th grade, so I’m scared to go to school. Please give me some advice and courage.”
Koki said right away, “I was bullied too when I was in elementary school. They hid my shoes, they put thumbtacks on my chair. Somebody even wrote “stupid” on somebody’s desk, and everyone pointed at me saying, ‘We think Tanaka did it.’”
Koki added, “There should be someone to help you, and if you keep facing it, you will see the light at the end. That’s what I did.”
Koki’s confession about his past astonished Junnosuke. (tokyohive)

My new project?

I was planning to post some pictures but NOOO blogger/ internet explorer is being a great help and closing the tab everytime I try to upload a picture. It's been happening a lot recently, does anyone know what the problem is?

Okay, so back to school today. I've just decided that I'm not going to attend lessons for the end of the week because it was just so exhausting. I'd prefer it if everyone in school were like robots and didn't chat and go out with each other, really. Without all this "make friends" and "clique" sort of thing, it'd be easier for social misfits for me. And I must be one of the most misfitted(?) misfits around because I am actually in the most popular clique but I can't relate to people in that clique. And there's no way I can move to another "less cool" clique because the other students are wary about my "cool clique" status so they are actually not so intimate when speaking to me. Aaand, believe it or not, those from the "cool clique" that I'm in actually really do consider me to be part of their clique and show me concern often enough. Well, honestly, they are really kind-hearted and all, but, but, I just don't know why it doesn't work out for me.

Now, more cheerful stuff! I made onigiri and sushi just now! With carrot and seasoning, no not those MSG-laden sort, I meant those that are meant for adding to your Japanese dishes. And I attempted to make onigiri without the mould but it turned out to be more of a rice ball, really.

I've been in a I-want-to-do-something-art-and-craft-ish mood recently, so I've been thinking of taking up knitting after my 'O' level exams, but I have almost zero experience in sewing. I've been thinking of buying those Perler/Hama/Aqua beads and making loads of them. Okay I've decided after watching some videos on YouTube I am going to go to Ikea sometime soon to buy those beads and make loads. Hehehe I can even make necklaces, keychains, coasters and sell them here! Oh my, I'm so excited!!! Okay I doubt I can make much money from that and I have zero artistic talent but oooh it sounds so exciting! Okay the post title "My new project" seriously sounds weird but I don't know what else to call it. =.=

Mei-chan no Shitsuji

I've finished watching Mei-chan no Shitsuji! Honestly, the plot wasn't as weak as I though it would be, given the frivolous nature of the story and what I had read from some online reviews. Of course, you have to take into account that this drama is in no way meant to seem real or relatable, and that it was probably created to fulfill every fangirls wildest dreams. I often caught myself lapping up some parts of the show (I still have a maniac grin on my face now), but when I thought about it I'd feel like cringing BUT THEN I decided to heck with it and continued taking it all in.

Mizushima Hiro looks so smart and dependable in his formal wear! Heehee, I want him as my butler too! That's what everyone says after 10minutes into this show but actually what's the point of having a handsome and caring butler if love is forbidden?! AAAGH TO HELL WITH THAT RULE.

I've never heard of the main actress before, but my favourite student was Miruku-chan! I did some research on the actress and her name's Yoshida Riko. She is so adorable with her two ponytails and her little schoolgirl uniform and her acting is so sharp and convincing! Her butler, Daimon (Suzuki Ryohei) fits his role perfectly too! I also checked up on the four Sole girls and they're all quite pretty, but they come across as plain and disdainful in the show, plus they don't really seem to have much of a role. I'm still wondering why they decided to even waste money hiring those extra actresses.

Sato Takeru is pretty cute, I guess, but for some reason I'm not really a fan of his. I guess he falls into the same category as Ikuta Toma for me. But I do get the feeling that he and Hiro are well cast as brothers. Of course, Mizushima Hiro wins hands-down for me!

My exams will finally be over tomorrow! I'm now downloading the torrents for Zettai Karshi. I've been on a Hiro fest. First Hana Kimi, then Mei-chan no Shitsuji and now Zettai Kareshi! But the torrents might take a while and I don't want to wait in between episodes/ resort to bad-quality, pixelated, slow loading videos that I have to watch online, so I'm gonna find some dorama that I can watch online with good quality and fast loading. Any reccomendations anyone?

Side note: Seems like Akanish Jin went on a drinking spree in Roppongi with his bandmates after coming back to Japan. I'll update if I get anymore info!

Blah, school = *#!@$&

In case anyone has been wondering why I haven't been posting much lately, it's not that I've decided to neglect my blog, but because:

1. I've been feeling so blah lately.
2. There isn't any exciting entame news for me to post, exciting meaning related to Arashi/ KAT-TUN/ others.
3. My exams are coming (in less than a week, my friend kindly reminded me today).
4. My laptop isn't %#$@& here yet!!!

So do keep on checking back, but for those who can't be bothered to keep on checking back, feel free to email me, I'll email you back when I start updating (properly) again.

I am bad at setting goals for myself

I don't know what my problem is when it comes to setting goals. Today, I tried to set my target for my upcoming exams, and here's what I got:

English: A1
Higher Chinese: C5
Elementary Mathematics: A1
Additional Mathematics: B3
Biology: A1
Chemistry: A2
SS/GE: A1
Literature: B3

L1R5: 9

Then, I started having doubts. "What if I don't study, just like the previous times?", "What if only the topics I'm not good at are tested?". And I decided that I'd settle for an L1R5 of 12. But now, I can't decide. Ugh.
Hi all, as you can see, I've changed my blogskin! I have no knowledge of HTML, so there's no other option but to use default templates. I think this is better, at least there's some variation instead of simply white and black and it still looks simple and organised. :D

As I've been rather busy with school and quizzes this past two weeks, I haven't been updating much. Promise to update over the long Good Friday weekend (provided I don't end up going out on all 3days). And I found a new interesting site: http://www.style-arena.jp/. Check it out!

2010

I hate new years. If only we had no notion of time, we would never be required to indulge in the friviolity of celebrations and countdowns. I must say that 2009 has not been a good year for me, and I am not brightened up by the prospect of 2010. I doubt it will be any better, but I hope that I can keep my head down and stay strong, waiting for the day when I can hold my head up high.

On a more organised note, this is my most important goal for 2010:
To get a nett score of 2 in my GCE 'O' Level Examinations, which will take place end 2010.

Stay strong, you.
